Green moong dal sprout salad is a very refreshing and healthy salad. Dal when sprouted turn out to be sweeter and this combo goes well with cucumbers, lemon and green chillie.

Green moong dal sprouts is one of the healthy salad and easy to prepare. Sprouted Moong are a good source of proteins, vitamin-C, iron and potassium. They are best eaten raw in salads, or very lightly cooked. Long cooking methods destroys the vital vitamins and disrupts the flavor.

This can be had daily in the morning or evening as snack which is rich in protein and it is good for people on diet. You can also add sprouts to pasta and noodles, or salads for some extra nutrition. This salad is good for children too.

Preparing sprouted green moong dal

Sprouting Moong dal is quite simple. Here is a simple tutorial showing the procedure.

  • Day 1: Wash and soak a cup of Moong dal in surplus fresh water.
  • Day 2: Next day drain the dal and shower wash them gently under fresh water and wrap the moong dal with wet muslin cloth and drain the plumped up dal. Tie the ends of the cloth into a knot. Hang in a dark place at room temperature where it wont be disturbed. (sprinkle some water on dal so that sprouts will come out well).
  • Day 3: Morning: Check the dal if they have started sprouting. The dal should have sprouted usually by this time if you happen to live in warmer areas.
  • Keep them in the refrigerator and use as required.
