Onion Chutney (Ulli Pachadi) recipe for Dosa

What do you need?

  • 3 Onions
  • 5-6 Red Chillies
  • 1 tsp black urad dal (minappa pappu)
  • 1/2 tsp Tamarind extract
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard seeds
  • Few Curry leaves
  • Oil to fry.

How to prepare?

  • Take a bowl and fry chopped onions in a table spoon of oil, till transparent. Keep it aside.
  • In the same pan fry red chillies, cumin seeds, red chillis and stir fry for a few seconds in a table spoon of oil. Add urad dal and let it turn light red.
  • Grind the roased ingredients to a smooth paste, with the sauted onions, tamarind and salt without adding water.
  • Heat the oil for seasoning. Add mustard seeds, when they start popping, add curry leaves and turn off heat.
  • Pour over the chutney is ready to be served.
  • This is an excellent accompaniment to dosa's.
