Paanakam for Srirama Navami

Ram Navami also known as Sri Rama Navami is a Hindu festival, celebrating the birth of Lord Rama to King Dasharatha and Queen Kausalya of Ayodhya.The Sree Rama Navami festival falls in the Shukla Paksha on the Navami, the ninth day of the month of Chaitra in the Hindu calendar. Thus it is also known as Chaitra Masa Suklapaksha Navami, and marks the end of the nine-day Chaitra-Navratri celebrations.

On this day we prepare Panakam (Telugu) or Panaka (hindi), a festive sweet drink prepared with jaggery and flavored with cardamom and pepper.We also prepare Vada Pappu (split yellow moong dal) as naivedyam.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cup grated Jaggery (Bellam)
  • 5 cups Water
  • 2 tsp crushed Black Pepper
  • 4 no. crushed Cardamom

Method of Preperation:

  • Take the jaggery and mix in the water. Dissolve it well.
  • Filter it in a muslin cloth or a filter.
  • Then add crushed black pepper and crushed cardamom.
  • Mix well and ready to offer as neivedyam.
