Spicy Onion Tomato Chutney

Tomatoes are now eaten freely throughout the world, and to benefit the heart, among other organs. They contain the carotene lycopene, one of the most powerful natural antioxidants,vitamin C and vitaminA.Tomato can protect against sunburn and help keeping the skin looking youthful.

Tomato chutney is very simple and easy to make with less ingredients.Tomato chutney is my favourite recipe which is really hot.My mom always cooked this simple tomato chutney. Today we going to make this chutney.

INGREDIENTS:
  • 3-4 large ripe juicy chopped tomatoes
  • 4-5 green chillis (slit length wise)
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 medium sized finely chopped onion
  • 4-5 garlic pods
  • 1/4 tsp tamarind paste
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4 tsp hinge (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp jaggery or sugar (optional)
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

For tempering/tadka/poppu:
  • 1 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp chana dal
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • Few curry leaves


PREPARATION METHOD:
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds.It starts spluttering add chana dal, urad dal and curry leaves and sauté for 2 minutes.
  • Now add green chillies,chopped tomatoes,tamarind paste,turmeric powder,and salt.
  • Close it with lid and let cook on low flame.Check at regular intervals and stir.
  • Add little water and let it cook for 2 minutes.Lastly add jaggery and hinge to it.Mix well and turn off heat.
  • Mash the chutney with a wooden pappu gutti into a smooth paste.
  • Transfer the chutney into the serving bowl and garnish with garlic pods,chopped onions and coriander leaves.
