Take a bowl and fry chopped onions in a table spoon of oil, till transparent. Keep it aside.
In the same pan fry red chillies, cumin seeds, red chillis and stir fry for a few seconds in a table spoon of oil. Add urad dal and let it turn light red.
Grind the roased ingredients to a smooth paste, with the sauted onions, tamarind and salt without adding water.
Heat the oil for seasoning. Add mustard seeds, when they start popping, add curry leaves and turn off heat.
