Andhra traditional festive Sweet: Poornam Boorelu

Ingredients:

For Poornam (stuffing):
  • 1 cup Chana dal
  • 2 cups Grated jaggery (bellam)
  • 1/4 cup dry Grated coconut
  • A pinch of Cardamom powder

For Batter:
  • 1/2 cup Rice
  • 1/4 cup Urad dal (minapappu)
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • Oil for deep frying

Making Procedure of Poornam Boorelu:

  • First of all we need prepare batter for Poornam Boorelu. Follow the steps to prepare batter:
    • Wash and soak the rice and dal for 6-8 hrs and then grind this into a smooth paste.
    • Add sugar and salt and mix well and keep aside.
  • Then you need to prepare poornalu. Follw the steps to prepare Poornalu:
    • Wash and soak the chana dal atleast 2 hours and then cook it in a pressure cooker with with just enough water.
    • Turn on the stove to low and mix the grated jaggery, elaichi powder and grated coconut.
    • Keep mixing frequently to avoid burning.
    • Let it cook until the poornam mixture forms a thick paste.Stir it continuously until it hardens.
    • Allow it to cool and make lemon size balls and keep aside.
  • Take the deep fry pan and heat oil.
  • Dip the above poornam balls into the batter and fry them in oil till golden brown in colour.
  • Remove from flame and serve them hot with few drops of ghee.
