INGREDIENTS:
For the stuffing- 2 cups grated fresh coconut
- 1 cup grated jaggery
- 1 tsp cardamom powder
- 1 tsp poppy seeds(optional)
- 1 Cup rice flour
- 1 tsp ghee
- 1 and half Cup water
- A pinch of Salt
METHOD OF PREPARING MODAK:
To make stuffing:
- Heat ghee in a vessel, add poppy seeds.
- Add jaggery and grated coconut. Keep stirring continuously on medium flame.
- Now add cardamom powder and let the mixture cook till it becomes a little dry.
- The coconut jaggery filling is ready.Let it cool, Keep aside.
To make Rice flour dough:
- Boil water add salt,ghee and the rice flour to it.
- Keep stirring the mixture to avoid any lumps and to make smooth dough.
- If the mixture becomes dry, sprinkle little water.
- Now turn off heat and transfer the dough into another bowl.Let it cool.
To make Modak:
- Grease the palms of your hands and make small balls from the dough.
- Flatten the dough to make a bowl shape.
- Put 1 tsp coconut filling into this and bring the edges together on top and join to a modak shape.
- Prepare all modaks this way.
- Place and Steam the modaks for 7-10 mins in a pressure cooker or idly cooker on a medium flame.
- Turn off heat and let it cool.
- The modaks are ready to be offered to Lord Ganesha.
